Chemical Testing

Optical emission spectroscopy or OES is a well trusted and widely used analytical technique for metal identification to determine the elemental composition of a broad range of metals. This process is essential throughout the metals industry from trace element analysis in scrap metal, to melt process control in foundries and incoming material inspection in manufacturing. This trace metal analysis technique is fast and easy to use, offering accuracy and precision needed for high-performance metal identification.

The Laboratory is equipped with a BAIRD Optical Emission Spectrometer DV-6 to carry out chemical analysis on metals which includes

  • Ferrous base (plain carbon and low alloy steels, cast irons, stainless steels and tool steels
  • Aluminum base
  • Copper base
  • Nickel base
  • Zinc base

The Laboratory has a wide range of Certified Reference Materials to cover the entire range in each of these alloy systems to ensure reliability of test results.
